Prior to coming to Lee I had had a few sessions with another professional coach. Lee was much more helpful. He seemed to understand my weaknesses and adjusted his coaching program to my personal needs rather than some standard formula. I found it easy to relate to him and understand what he believed I needed to do to improve my game. I suppose the proof of the pudding is in the eating and I have found my game has changed significantly since being coached by him. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to any players from beginners to advanced level.

Lee coached me for a few weeks in the summer before lockdown and it was great to have regular sessions focused on my game. What sets Lee apart from other coaches is his dedication to go beyond the 'normal' coaching session - knowledge of local players, after session feedback, sending YouTube links etc, watching when we were playing elsewhere. He even played matches in specific styles/characters to take me on at the end of sessions to practice the style we had worked on in the day. Lee also takes note of how you want to enjoy playing, not purely focusing on how to win a point but the style you want to play in, he doesn't force a generic style at all, players with 'unusual' styles would really like Lee as a coach. Lee also has so many coaching venues available, and with seemingly endless energy plays at all times of the day, which for someone busy is really helpful. It's great Chelmsford finally has a dedicated coach that has helped transform the junior league.

I would thoroughly recommend Lee as a coach - his passion, commitment and enthusiasm for his job is clear in everything he does. My son (Tom) started having group and 1-1 coaching sessions with Lee approximately 8 months ago. As a result of Lee’s attention to detail, Tom’s technique has improved beyond my expectations. Additionally, he encourages Tom to think for himself: to analyse his game, consider his game strategy and identify his strengths and weak points to work on. Lee is an excellent communicator both with Tom and me. He listens and responds to Tom’s needs and is skilled in adapting his approach and manner to suit different individuals. He gives detailed feedback to Tom which he also shares with me to enable Tom to move his game forward. This communication does not stop at the table: he has regular contact with us outside of coaching sessions: sharing information that will help to encourage motivate and support his game.

Lee has been a very flexible coach for us. Myself, my son Ollie and my wife Kellie have all benefited from his excellent tutition. Dealing with three very different players each with their own personality and requirements cannot be easy but each 121 session is expertly tailored to suit maximising our personal development. His passion and knowledge of table-tennis couldn’t be more evident in his sessions whether 121 or in a large group his technical mastery always guides his students towards improvement. Lee is fantastic with the juniors, I’ve seen first hand the steady progress these young players have made under his tutelage.
I would always recommend Lee if you want to improve your game, no matter whether you are a seasoned pro or a beginner Lee will find a way to help you achieve your personal table-tennis goal. All sports need passionate coaches dedicated to introducing new participants and improving existing players, we are lucky to have Lee working in ours, looking at the strength of table-tennis especially at a cadet and junior level it’s definitely working!

I’ve just had my first couple of lessons with Lee, as after not playing for nearly 30 years I wanted to at least have a chance of getting back to somewhere near my previous level. The one hour sessions have been informative, technically enlightening without being too heavy on that side of things, and most importantly of all enjoyable. The difference in my next club practice session was frankly remarkable! Whether you are an absolute beginner or an already able player, I’ve no doubt there’s plenty to gain by tapping in to Lees undoubted knowledge and enthusiasm.

When I first met Lee some 4 years ago I was immediately impressed with his enthusiasm. For me that is the greatest asset a Coach or anyone can have. That has to be backed up of course with communication skills & knowledge of your chosen trade which Lee has in abundance. He is very methodical & dedicated to his profession showing a real care for our sport. His sessions are well structured & well prepared using all the modern day techniques as well as common sense drills. He always asks the more experienced players what they want to work on involving them in the process of learning. It’s important for the Junior to know why & what he’s doing after all it’s games ultimately they are preparing for. Lee is very adaptable & diligent in fact the best coach I have worked with in my 6 year tenure as Colchester Junior Match Secretary where he has passed on his experience to our other younger Coaches in the process taking the Colchester Juniors to a high level of competence. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to all age groups & standards for Table Tennis Coaching as long as it’s not to the detriment of his involvement with Colchester!

Lee has helped me to understand my strengths and weaknesses and improved my technique a lot. He makes it very enjoyable and lets me work at my own pace. Sessions are hard work, but good fun, I'm looking forward to the next one.

Lee helps me look at shots from different angles so as to build up my basic technique and hopefully improve my games eventually. He is very patient and inspiring 🏓️👍🏓’

My son, aged 10 joined having only ever played previously on the odd occasion on holidays. Not knowing anyone, Lee helped him settle in and feel comfortable whilst learning the rules - but most of all - having fun!

My 14 year old son has been having one to one and small group coaching with Lee. He is a fantastic coach who uses a wide range of techniques to help all abilities. My son has really enjoyed the sessions and has definitely progressed. Lee provides detailed feedback to both parents and students after every lesson with emails on what has been covered in the session and tips for areas to focus on and improve. I would definitely recommend him for anyone looking to improve their Table Tennis skills.

I have had coaching from Lee for a few years now. I started training initially to get the basics under my belt and to just be involved in a new sport that can keep me moving with a bit of exercise. Turns out table tennis is addictive and the progress you feel from Lee's tutoridge makes you want to progress to a higher level! I always book a few hours with Lee when my brother is down south as a present. My brother plays club TT at a much much higher level than myself and Lee changes his coaching style to push him further which is great to see. What ever your standard or reasons to learn, Lee has the skills to structure a creative and enjoyable session to suit you.

I have had a number of coaching sessions with Lee and everyone has been excellent. Being in my 70’s and having not played table tennis for about 54 years I was very nervous on our first session, but Lee took it in his stride and gave me a lot of confidence. Having only played with an ‘old’ style bat, the new ‘sponge’ bats were very different. After a number of sessions I am now more confident with the different ‘spins’ created. Lee’s practice routines are always good and his ability to spot what I need to change is miraculous. I highly recommend Lee if you are looking for a top quality table tennis coach.

Lee's attention to detail and personable approach to coaching have helped me reach new levels of performance. Lee's ability to breakdown specific parts of my game that require improvement have been challenging and insightful; whilst helping me set realistic goals when playing competitively, either locally or at larger tournaments, which clearly indicate marked improvements across my game. Thanks, Lee!

I didn't take up TT until I retired, playing with other people about my age (late 60s). My biggest improvement came after a couple of lessons with Lee, when he taught me to play like a much younger player by keeping low. It took a few lessons to get me out of the habit of playing like an old man but when it clicked in my improvement was 100%.
An excellent coach.

Lee is head coach at Buttsbury YTTC and has been amazing in his time at the club, his dedication towards improving others performance and love of the game is very clear at each session and also off the table too. He dedicates so much time to the enjoyment and improvement of table tennis players of all ages at our club and across Chelmsford and Essex.

Lee is a great coach and really enthusiastic, my sons really enjoy his sessions and have learned lots of new skills.

Lee is a brilliant coach. He takes time to understand every individual, evaluates their game and then helps them improve. All this is achieved whilst still making lessons fun for all.
Liam H
The coaching is very fun and you mainly focus on the areas that I need to improve the most. The one to one coaching has really improved my game. (I’ll beat you soon lol)
Zoe
Lee is an enthusiastic coach, he motivates and works his players hard to reach their potential. Through his extensive coaching knowledge he assesses players and develops their match tactics and strategies based on their strengths. He has made a huge difference to my son and all the juniors he coaches in and around the Chelmsford area.

Lee is in my opinion a very good coach, has very useful tips and is patient with me; most importantly he is improving my game. Lee is easy to work with and very knowledgeable. I always look forward to and enjoy my sessions with him.

Lee has been my sons coach for many years offering group and 1 -1 training. I have sat in on many of these sessions and have witness a passion for teaching the sport which the children pick up on and enjoy the sessions every time.
Kath L
I have had 1-1 coaching with Lee on several occasions. He is really helpful and makes you work hard. He recognises strengths and weaknesses and coaches accordingly. He also asks what you hope to gain from the session. I can’t recommend him enough and will definitely be back for more when lockdown allows.
Sam P
Lee is an excellent technical coach, within one session he was able to recognise a small problem that has enabled me to develop my game. He takes the time to explain how you can develop and walks you through the steps to using the correct technique.
Katie P
Lee has coached both of my teenage sons for the last few years. The training sessions are a great mixture of fulfilling potential & fun drills / games which have naturally led onto successful tournament wins. Lee is extremely driven, professional & always strives to get the best out of his students.

Lee is passionate about table tennis and is dedicated to anyone he coaches. He has a holistic approach when working with children and is able to build positive relationships with them. He communicates effectively with a calm manner and is able to quickly identify areas to develop whilst being flexible in his approach.

In my first session with Lee he quickly identified my key weaknesses and clearly explained how to correct them. We performed several drills and I felt an immediate improvement. Though I have 15+ years experience of playing table tennis, Lee was still able to enlighten me and provide new knowledge.

Lee McHugh has coached my son since the age of 8 - up until then we had only played casually at home. Lee has helped my son understand and vastly improve his Table Tennis technique in both group and 1 to 1 sessions. I have seen Lee coach many different levels of player - from beginner (like my son) to advanced - no matter the standard of player I thoroughly recommend Lee as a coach, I have always found him approachable, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and passionate about the sport of Table Tennis.

Having returned to table tennis after a long spell I was put in touch with Lee to help me improve my game so that I could play some low-level competitive TT. Lee is a very intuitive coach and has really helped me develop my play, working on what I have and taking it to a new level. He is very patient and finds a way to adapt sessions and drills to get the best out of me. Having attended some group sessions as well as 1 to 1, I would highly recommend Lee as a coach, for all levels and ages.

Our then 8 year old son started to show interest in table tennis during the summer of 2020, we invested in an outdoor table tennis table during lockdown, we also invested in Lee to help set our son off on the right track. We couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to table tennis. Lee took the time to understand his motivations and how to get the best from him, Lee has installed a level of focus and discipline but also having fun at the same time. Our son managed to get a few competitive games in during 2020 and Lee has given him some constructive feedback and plenty of encouragement.

I very much enjoy my sessions with Lee. He has an analytical and focussed approach to coaching which is making me think far more about my game.
If I can absorb the information I have no doubt this will lead to me become a better player.

Working with Lee has been a pleasure. He is dedicated to help every kid. Not only kids but even other coaches. He gives me suggestions and takes suggestions too. When he approaches children, he has appropriate manners. The kids love his sessions. The sessions are not only intense; kids enjoy it.

Thanks Lee for coaching Jishaant for Table tennis. He was a complete novice when he had joined CTTC and now there is remarkable difference in his game. Lee's coaching has helped him greatly to learn the technique. Lee has observed Jishaant to identify his weak areas and provided valuable tips to improve. Lee is very approachable and has a good technique for coaching.

I enjoy the variety of my table tennis lessons with Lee. Some are obviously coach
lead, whilst others are player lead, where I decide the aspects I would like to work on. Some lessons are on fitness, footwork, technical shots, or tactical play.
One benefit of the latter is that Lee can take role play the style of a particular player I have difficulty with and all this has helped me achieve some my my best ever results in short season.
